Early Seasons Greetings to all our subscribers. We have got a few items that may be of interest, so we thought a newsletter would be a good way to keep you up to-date.

We have been contacted by American Citizens Abroad who have asked us to pass their website information to our readers. A new restaurant and take-away selling fast food is soon to open and how to watch live TV from the UK and USA over the internet free.

American Citizens Abroad (ACA), the voice of Americans overseas, is a non-profit, non-partisan, all-volunteer organization that represents the interests of Americans living and working outside the U.S. to the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government, the U.S. Congress, and the U.S. Federal Judiciary to insure that Americans overseas are treated with equality and fairness.

Union Jack’s Great British Fast Food

Why

Joao Pessoa has some superb restaurants but when you just want something tasty and fast, there is little choice! The three foods I miss most from the UK are Fish & Chips, Southern Fried Chicken and Curry, so I decided to solve all this and open Union Jack’s!

Where

The restaurant is in Tambau, just one block back from the beach on Antonio Lira, 441 opposite the Luxor Tambau building, we will be running a delivery service but to start with its just takeaway. There is limited seating inside and outside the restaurant.

When

The launch party will be on the 22nd November, anyone who would like to attend, please send me an email (john@emailagora.com) and I will send an email invite. The restaurant will open for business on the 23rd November, initially we will be open Monday to Saturday lunch and evenings to around 10pm.

Watch UK and American TV free online

One of the questions I am asked most by ex-pats is “how can I watch TV over the internet”. A couple of years ago we posted a link to vipbox which shows most European and American sports live. They are now also streaming most major television channels from the UK and the USA. Click on the link above and at the bottom of the page you will see a link marked TV Box, click that and you’ll be given a choice between UK and USA TV. It is free!

Items for sale and Get-Togethers

If you have any items for sale, a business to promote or any news you would like to share, please let us know via email to admin@paraibaparadise.com and we will send it out in our newsletter. If you are planning a get-together also please let us know, we no-longer arrange the get-togethers but are happy to promote them for others.

March 2012 Get-Together

Maga and Ricardo have invited us to hold the next get-together at the Palm club, Ave Cabo Branco, Cabo Branco, JoaoPessoa, Paraiba. It will take place on the 11th March 2012 starting at 1pm and finishing around 7pm. Here is a map with the location.

As always there will be a book and DVD exchange, so be sure to dig out all those old books you keep meaning to bring and swap. We would once again like to give people the option to bring 1Kg of non-perishable food or a child’s toy that we will donate to a local ONG working in Joao Pessoa, Paraiba (also we would be very happy to accept any clothes and shoes).

The Christmas get-together at the O’neill pousada

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Keke and Patrick for hosting a great day at their pousada, restaurant and Irish bar in Bessa for the Christmas get-together. Everyone seems to have had a good time, so much so that a few people now attend the bar every friend evening between 5 and 8pm.

“We are currently conducting preliminary studies aimed at preparing the tender,” the spokesperson said, adding that a tender date and exact budget have yet to be finalized.

The airport is located in Bayeux, some 13.6km from downtown João Pessoa.

The current passenger terminal spans 9,464m2 and has capacity to handle 860,000 passengers per year, following improvement and remodeling work that started in 2004.

Paraíba state’s other airport, Presidente  João Suassuna, is located in the city of Campina Grande, some 122km from João Pessoa.

The victims, a retired married couple from Savonlinna, were selling their winter home on the Brazilian coast when they and a friend were killed.

The police found the suspect in São Paulo after having been given a tip-off as to the man’s whereabouts.

According to the media, the 58-year-old mechanic was found in a flat on the northern side of the metropolis on Wednesday.

Head of the investigation Rodolfo Santa Cruz confirms to Helsingin Sanomat that the man has been apprehended.

A number of credit cards belonging to the murdered Finns were found in his possession.

The arrested man was a prospective buyer of the Finnish couple’s house, and the motive of the killings apparently involves financial problems linked with the sale of the house.

The police interrogated the mechanic soon after the discovery of the bodies, but he nevertheless managed to leave for São Paulo, which is located more than 2,000 kilometres away from João Pessoa.

The police have already earlier arrested a 51-year-old man who is suspected of helping the mechanic commit the crimes.

According to the head of the investigation, the police have no other suspects.

The mortal remains of the deceased Finns are still in Brazil, but preparations are being made to bring the bodies back to Finland.

Jari Luoto, the Finnish Ambassador to Brazil, says that a date for the transportation has not been set yet. The paperwork for the move has not been completed.

”The arrangements are under way”, Luoto reports.

Markus Talvio, the lawyer representing the victims’ families, says that once the deceased are in Finland, a new forensic examination will be performed on them.

“The local police have told us that the investigation has proceeded well. The police have continued their investigation by interrogating people”, says Jari Luoto, the Finnish Ambassador to Brazil.

The NBI confirms that the theory that the killings may have involved difficulties that a prospective buyer of the property may have had in getting the money to pay for the house.

The victims were a retired surgeon and his wife, a retired gynaecologist from Savonlinna, as well as a friend, a semi-retired nurse.

A friend of the victims, anaesthesiologist Pekka Mononen, said that the couple had acquired property in Joao Pessoa Brazil for health reasons, and because cheap housing was available there. However, they had grown tired of constant problems in Brazil.

“They had been robbed once, and they have had money and goods stolen. They were also let down by a person whom they trusted.”

Authorities in Brazil reportedly suspect that two people were involved in the triple murder.

According to the head of the investigation, who was interviewed by the Finnish television network MTV3, police have one suspect, but nobody has been arrested yet.

Police believe that the three were killed in the house, and that the bodies were taken to a nearby sugar cane field where they were found.
