Stable Union

GENERAL RULES

Applications for Temporary or Permanent Visa for a male or female partner of a Brazilian national or for a temporary or permanent foreign national in Brazil over the age of 21 can be made to the National Immigration Council, on the basis of the Normative Rulings no. 27/98 and no. 36/99, and the CNIg Administrative Rule no. 5 as long as there is proof that the union is stable, which should be corroborated by one or more of the following documents.   • Certificate of cohabitation issued by a government body of the interested country
  • Proof of a stable union issued by a Family Court judge or a corresponding authority either in Brazil or abroad
  • Proof of financial dependence issued by the fiscal authority or a corresponding authority to the Inland Revenue Secretariat
  • Cohabitation certificate or a similar document proving that the cohabitation has existed for over five years, issued by an authority similar to a Civil Registry Office, either in Brazil or abroad; or proof that a child was born from the union by means of a birth certificate

The documents to be submitted to CNIg issued under the preceding ruling must be legalised at an appropriate Brazilian Consular Office and translated in Brazil by a sworn translator.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than 6 months (Soiled, damaged or defaced passports will not be accepted)
  • Two visa application forms, duly filled and signed by the applicant
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • For applicants of 18 years of age or above: Certificate of Prosecution/Conviction History
  • Certificate of vaccination, where necessary
  • Receipt of payment of the consular fee
