Brazil‘s Tourism Ministry launched a campaign in Johannesburg, South Africa to promote Brazil as a tourist destination in preparation for Brazil’s hosting of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The campaign is called “O Brasil te chama, celebre a vida aqui” (Brazil calls you, celebrate life here). During the launching ceremony of the campaign, two short films directed by Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles were shown, reports China’s Xinhua news agency.
One of films, “Apito” (Whistle), will be aired Sunday worldwide just after the World Cup final. The other will be made available on the internet Monday.
Tourism Minister Luiz Barretto said that one billion reais (US$568 million) will be invested in the tourism sector in the following years.
Another 400 million reais (US$227 million) will be financed through the Development Bank’s loans to each of the host cities to build or renovate stadiums.
The government also intends to invest in the population’s qualification in the tourism sector, Barretto said. “There will be more people qualified and in the job market. This is one of the most important legacies of the World Cup,” he said.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said that the 2014 World Cup should not only be regarded as Brazil’s, but as a Latin American event.
