Brazilian president back to work from hypertension

February 2nd, 2010

Brazilian President Lula

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Monday resumed his regular work after having a high blood pressure last week.

In his weekly radio show “Breakfast with the President,” Lula said this hypertensive crisis might have been caused by excessive work, but stressing he was in good health condition and would keep working and traveling while taking better care of his health at the same time.

After undergoing several physical examinations in a hospital in Recife, northeast Brazil late Wednesday, the president was asked to rest and cancel his schedule for the week.

The incident happened when Lula was about to leave for Davos,Switzerland, where he would receive an award at the World Economic Forum. Foreign Relations Minister Celso Amorim was sent to Davos to represent the president.

During the radio show, Lula also commented on the World Social Forum, which took place last week in Porto Alegre, south Brazil, saying the Forum, in its tenth year, was more mature now.

“It is important for us to have the Forum to show it is possible to build a better country and a better world. And it is possible to improve the relationship between the government and social society,” he said.
