Toyota Motor Corp.’s quality concerns won’t affect vehicles in Brazil or Argentina, the company said Thursday.
The potential accelerator pedal flaw identified in the U.S., China and Europe doesn’t affect Toyota cars produced in Japan, Argentina and Brazil, the company said.
Toyota cars in Brazil and Argentina are either made in those two countries or in Japan, and as such there won’t be local recalls, the company said.
Toyota’s Corolla model is made in Brazil, while the Camry and Rav4–all subject to recalls in other countries–are imported from Japan, Toyota Brazil said.
Meanwhile, the “operations of Toyota Argentina won’t be affected by this situation,” said Daniel Afione, general manager of corporate affairs at Toyota Argentina.
“The origin of the units sold in the country are Argentina, Brazil and Japan. We don’t sell units made in the U.S.,” Afione said.
The recall so far affects Toyota models made in China, Europe and the U.S., the company said.
Earlier this week, Toyota halted sales of most of its popular models in the U.S. on safety concerns. It had recalled millions of vehicles in the U.S. last week following growing reports of unintended acceleration.
The concerns have spread to China, prompting the recall of 75,552 RAV4 sport- utility vehicles sold in the East Asian nation.
The company has also said vehicles in Europe would be affected, although the number of vehicles hasn’t yet been determine.
The Argentine government’s consumer defense office couldn’t be reached for comment.
