Brazil will lose between US$ 417 billion (in an optimist scenario) and US$ 2 trillion of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per year by 2050 thanks to global warming. This means, in the worst scenario, the GDP might be reduced in 2.3% by the middle of the century.
This is one of the scary conclusions of a report just released by several Brazilian universities and the main specialists in climate and agriculture of the country. They worked for two years in a document that evaluates the possible impacts of the raising temperatures and climate instability. “It is like wasting a whole year of growth during the next 40 years”, says the study. China and Brazil should work to tap the potential for cooperation and take advantage of their economic complementarity to help achieve economic prosperity of both countries, top Chinese political adviser Jia Qinglin said on Sunday.
Jia, who is in Amazonas state as part of his visit to Brazil, said at a meeting with state governor Carlos Eduardo de Souza Braga that Amazonas, with a strong economy and Brazil’s sole free trade area, has been the destination of investment by some Chinese companies, which have based their production here and sold products in Brazil and to other parts of South America.
China also welcomes Brazilian businesses, particularly those from Amazonas state, to seek opportunities for cooperation in China, said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. (more…)

President Lula said here Sunday that Brazil would not “reconsider” its stance on Honduras’ general elections and would not recognize the results.
Lula made the comments after arriving in Estoril, a Portuguese seaside resort, for the annual Ibero-American summit.
“It was a very dangerous signal” that ousted President Manuel Zelaya was not allowed to return to his country, Lula said. (more…)

Interlagos Raceway in Sao Paulo
The Interlagos Raceway in Sao Paulo, Brazil will stage the last race of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship, organizers announced on Saturday.
It will be the first time that the event is held on Brazilian soil.
Six teams – Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Maserati and Nissan – are already confirmed to compete in the 2010GT Championship.
The 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship will tour 12 different countries, starting in the United Arab Emirates, followed by South Africa, the Czech Republic, France, Canada, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Hungry, China and concluding in Brazil on November 28, 2010.

England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018 has been boosted by Brazil’s president offering his support ahead of a crucial week of campaigning.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, whose country will stage the 2014 World Cup, believes England deserves to stage the tournament again after having not staged football’s biggest event since 1966.
“Now is the time for the U.K. to host a FIFA cup again,” Silva said Sunday on Britain’s Channel Four News. “England will always have the competence and will always be a country that will have a great force, great strength to win bid for the FIFA cup.” (more…)
