About 100 politicians in Paraiba – mayors, deputy mayors, the governor, deputy and federal deputy – had their seats revoked in the last eight years for electoral corruption, vote buying, abuse of political power, abuse of economic power, infidelity and party administrative misconduct, among other crimes.
The impeachment happened in the counties, the Regional Electoral Court, the Superior Electoral Court and Court of Paraíba.
Not to mention all the rejections that occurred in the State Court of Audit on grounds of misuse of public money, issuing invoices cold, conducting fraudulent bidding, contracting “ghost” companies does not apply constitutional limits in health and education, as well as non-compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Law (LRF).
Only last year there were at least 73 council members fired having been accused of cheating in towns like Sobrado, Massaranduba, Gurinhém, Jacaraú, Salgadinho, Belem, Juripiranga, among others. In the years since 2001, more than 20 mayors and their deputy mayors also lost their seats for various crimes.
TRE (Regional Electoral Tribunal) took a historic decision in PB
In June 2007, the Regional Electoral Tribunal (B) in a historic decision, stripped the governor of his office along with his deputy, respectively Cassio Cunha Lima (PSDB), José Lacerda Neto (DEM). The two were accused of prohibited conduct for politicians, abuse of social programs and vote buying in the case called FAC.
In December of that year, Cássio and José Lacerda Neto were charged again for prohibited conduct and misuse of the official newspaper The Union
They appealed against the impeachment and remained in office. On 21 November last year, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) upheld forfeiture of two politicians, who brought several requests for clarification in an attempt to reverse the decision of the Court.
