Protected by a barrier reef which stretches down from Cabedelo, this beach is one of the calmest and most sought after by families and tourists alike.
Consequently, one needs to get there early to ensure good parking and a place by the seaside. There can be few beaches which get more packed than this one, even by Brazilian standards. Not for the claustrophobic.
The tourists head there in droves because the beach is the launching point to one of the regions most sought after tourist attractions, Areia Vermelha.
At low tide you can go out to Areia Vermelha by boat and rest on the sand bank or swim in the coral swimming pools with the fish. Boat bars and mini restaurants set up to serve fine regional cuisine. Everything then disperses before the tide comes back in.[slideshow id=20]
